1.She is not afraid of the soldiers because she is so used to them being there.
2.If the soldiers would have talked to me, I would have felt intimidated because they have guns and people don't like them.

1. Yes I think King Christan did the right thing by not fighting the Nazis because many lives would have been lost from the Danish people. The Nazis also had a lot bigger army so King Chrisitan's army would have died.
2. I wouldn't be able to die for my leader because I don't feel that stong of feelings for him but I would probably die for my family.
3. Annemarie's sister Lise died three years ago when Annemarie was really young.
4. I think Annemarie's family has changed because instead of three daughters they only have two now and Annemarie's parents never spoke of Lise. Papa had changed by feeling very tired all the time.

    1. The soldiers went to the Johansen's house because they were trying to find the Rosens because they were Jewish.
    2. I think the soldiers expect to find the Rosens hiding in the Johansen's apartment. They didn't know it, but they found Ellen.
    3. Annemarie tears the necklace from Ellen's neck because it was the Star of David which signifies that Ellen is a Jew.
    4. Papa was trying to prove that Ellen is Lise because when Lise was a baby she had black hair and Ellen had black hair so it worked out perfect.
    5. I think Annemarie is very brave because she is lying to the soilders to protect her friend and, she knows that can get her family in trouble.
    6. Mama wanted to travel alone because it might look suspicious to the soilders if their whole family was leaving.
    7. Papa and Uncle Hendrik are really talking about bringing Ellen to Uncle Henrik's house just to be cautious if the soilders were listening.

    1. Uncle Henrik's house was a good place for a refugee because it was away from town where less soldiers are.
    2. When I was reading this chapter I felt scared and that I was right there in the story.
    3. Mama and Annemarie were scared when Kirsti was about to talk because they thought she was going to say, " We are taking our friend Ellen to my Uncle Henrik's house.
    4. I think the soldiers expected Kirsti to say somthing that would give away that Ellen is in disguise as Lise.

    1. When Annemarie and Ellen were exploring Gilleleje they both felt very excited.
    2. This visit to Annemarie's uncle was different from the other ones in the past because now they all have to be much more cautious of all the soldiers.
    3. Uncle Henrik and mama's relationship is they are very close, they help each other out, and they kid a lot with each other.
    Chp. 8
    1. The two things that Uncle Henrik said that puzzled Annemarie are Uncle Henrik keeps talking about a Great Aunt Birte which she knows nothing about and his odd response to Papa. Papa asked Uncle Henrik if the weather was good for fishing. This was confusing to Annemarie because fishermen went fishing every day rain or shine.
    2. I do believe because Annemarie would have heard of Aunt Birte by now.
    3. I think that that is a code that means it is time to move Ellen to a new place to be safe.

    1. I think the mourners were people that lived some what close to Uncle Henrik who came to help.
    2. Uncle Henrik explained that if they told her it would be harder to be brave when something came up that needed a lot of courage.
    3. Annemarie was maturing when she was understanding and forgiving about what Uncle Henrik was saying

It was also close a port and close to Sweden

1. The familier phrase in the psalm was "Number The Stars."
2. I think the people at the wake felt scared because of the Nazis and tired because it was late at night.
3. Mama kept the soldiers from opening the casket by telling them that they could still get sick from the disease Aunt Birte had, typhus. She also agreed to open the casket. This made the soldiers less suspicous.
4. Annemarie's reaction was that she didn't think that it was posible to count all of the stars. The significance in the title of the book is that it is Number The Stars. You cannot count all of the stars in the sky just like you cannot catch all of the Jewish people.
chp. 11
1. A casket is a big box where the dead person is in. The question is what is IN the casket?
2. Peter insisted on giving the baby medicine to keep the baby asleep.
3. If Annemarie knew more than what her mama told her if she ran into soldiers, it might have been harder to be brave than if she k new less.
4. Annemarie's mother asked Annemarie if she wanted to go to bed because it was late, but Annemarie wanted to stay up to hear what the adults were talking about.

1. Yes, I think she will meet soldiers on the way to the boat and not know what to do.
2. Annemarie made the observation that it was harder for the people waiting because there might have been less danger but more fear.
3. Annemarie worried about her mom because she knew her mom would usually be home by now.

1. Annemarie volunteered because her mom had broken her ankle and the packet had to be delivered to Uncle Henrik.

1. I thought they treated Annemarie unfairly and very harsh.
2. They are rude to Annemarie when they don't believe that she is taking her Uncle Henrik's lunch to him: they ruin the bread and throw it on the ground, and they throw the apple on the ground.
3. Annemarie acted like Kirsti because she knew they would just think it's just a little girl giving her uncle his lunch and not a brave girl sneaking something to her uncle.
4. It surprised me when Uncle Henrik said to Annemarie that he would see them tonight.

1.Uncle Henrik defines brave as not thinking about the dangers and just thinking about what you need to do.
2. The secret was that the Rosens were hiding in storage underneath in the boat and about how the handkerchief didn't allow the soldier's dogs to find the Rosen's on the boat.
3.Kirsti said, "I'm going to be a nurse when I grow up. Not a cow milker. So I have to stay here to take care of Mama."

1. They entered each empty apartment, opened a window, and hung a symbol of freedom. It was a flag.
2. Peter was shot. Lise was hit by a car.
3. Annemarie hid Ellen's necklace in Lise's yellow dress in the trunk.
